General
What are reference images?
Reference images are what we use to draw close to your vision while scanning. They are 3–5 cohesive images that show us the skin tones, contrast, density and saturation you’re striving for. They can be from any medium. If you’d like to send us some reference images, you can do so here: Submit Reference Images.
How do I get my negatives?
Choose from the provided shipping options during checkout. Negatives will be cut and sleeved, unless you request otherwise. Prices will vary for international shipping.
I sent my film—what happens next?
Once your film arrives, we’ll send you an email letting you know your order status changed to processing. That day, check our current film service times so you know when you might see your scans. Once your scans are complete, you’ll receive an email with a link to download your images via Box.com (no Box.com account is needed). Your images will arrive rotated and organized by roll and frame number. If you number your rolls, they’ll arrive in chronological order.
Do you offer prepaid mailers or shipping labels?
We do not currently offer prepaid shipping labels.
Process + Scan
I shot Delta 3200—what do you need to know?
We process Delta 3200 at 3200 unless you indicate otherwise.
Do you scan film that someone else processed?
Yes! The price is the same as for processing and scanning.
Do you process + scan E-6 slide film / 110 / 126 / disc film?
We no longer process E-6 slide film, but we can scan it. We no longer process or scan 110, 126 or disc film.
What does “half frame” mean?
This only applies to 35mm film. You’ll want to choose half frame at checkout if you know your camera exposes two separate frames onto one single frame of 35mm, giving you roughly 72 images on a roll instead of 36.
Do you process + scan single use cameras?
Yes! This is the “Disposable” option at checkout. Additionally, we recycle every disposable camera we process.
Do you offer scans as TIFF files?
We do not offer TIFF files. Rest assured, our non-subsampled JPEGs offer the same beautiful image quality as a TIFF and save you on file storage.
Do you offer rushes?
During our busy season (roughly May–December), 2–5 day rush options will be available at checkout. From January–April, please email [email protected] or call 503-588-3686 to request a rush.
Printing
How big can I print my image?
Generally, we like to have at least 100 pixels for every inch we print. Keep in mind this depends on a few other factors: Did you nail focus? How far away will you be viewing your print? We’re happy to help you find the right print size for your image, give us a call or email.
What are true, wet process photographic prints?
Wet process means our photographic paper undergoes a wet, chemical reaction to create the image. This is different from inkjet or “giclée” prints where ink is sprayed onto paper. Our prints come on only the finest Fujicolor Crystal Archive Supreme photo paper, and can last 200+ years when stored correctly!
